Cooking Good Cookery Courses and Food Tours, Leintwardine, Shropshire
Become a “locavore” and discover real food with passion! Flexible cookery courses at Lower Buckton, a lovely old farmhouse in Mortimer Country on the north Herefordshire/south Shropshire borders where England meets Wales.

The courses are designed to explore the use of local, seasonal produce throughout the year and to “cook locally”. Discover the flavours of Herefordshire and its surrounding area, put them together to create sensational tastes and enjoy them in convivial surroundings. Carolyn Chesshire demonstrates her own style of cookery – fresh ideas and spontaneous recipes – all created from the ingredients available on the day of the course – including vegetables, fruit, game and Lower Buckton’s free-range, rare-breed Berkshire pork. Fresh food for fresh ideas

Carolyn and Henry Chesshire have run their successful dinner, bed and breakfast business at Lower Buckton since 2001. Their food has won much praise for its simplicity and originality and their knowledge of the area’s local food and drink infra-structure is extensive. Carolyn has cooked for a living since 1990, has won awards and demonstrates at Slow Food events, food festivals and shows. She was one of 30 cooks representing the UK at Slow Food’s Terra Madre Turin 06. They are committed members of Slow Food and all their food is either home-grown and produced or locally sought, bought and caught using small-scale, independent growers, producers and suppliers thus supporting the local community.

Lower Buckton’s sunny kitchen is the venue for the informal and hospitable sessions which are a mix of demonstration, “hands on” and practical. A day course starts with a visit to Henry’s kitchen garden to see what’s being grown and to pick what’s in season and ready before hitting the kitchen to cook up a storm!

The courses include:-

 - Morning coffee and homemade biscuits
 - Lunch with local wine, beer, cider, perry or juice
 - Afternoon tea with homemade cake
 - The day’s recipes
 - Personalised list of local food producers/markets in own area
 - Foodie reward to take home

Courses can include non-meat, special diets and practical advice from a local, qualified nutritionist – please ask.

Food Safaris – Herefordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Wales on a Plate Tailor-made mystery food tours of the area visiting local, artisan producers, growers and farmers’ markets for samples and tastings. Coffees, lunches and teas are taken at prize-winning cafes, inns and restaurants along the way. Memorable days off the beaten track exploring the area’s original food and drink culture and heritage.
